Voice Magazine Editor Hazel Usher-Jones

Hazel Usher-Jones welcomes you to the new version of Voice Magazine.  Hazel has been writing since she was seven years old winning competitions, publishing articles, poetry and prose.  At the age of fifty, Hazel was diagnosed with CFS/ME.  A keen walker, this was a blow for the active poet-author.

Her mystical poetry and muscular prose saw her work appear in various publications including some of United Press where her name appeared as either Morris or Usher.  Over the years, she has edited and written books and newsletters, also exhibiting photographs.  As a result of having her first painting exhibited in a gallery, Hazel hopes to write with illustrations and teach writers’ workshops for charity.

She states, “I’m looking forward to encouraging those who support the challenged, or are sufferers themselves, in sharing in raising awareness of their own many gifts and talents.  Beauty may be found in the strangest of places so let’s use our senses and uplift each other hear at Voice.”

Hazel is 52 years old and married to Ray, with two cats and two grown up children, James who works in music and arts, and Gaz who has just graduated with a Foundation Degree in Police Studies.

“I live in Kinmel Bay, near Rhyl.  When I am able I love to walk, having been a voluntary footpath warden prior to the onset of my condition.  This afforded me much inspiration for my writing and art activities.  I attempt to embrace with enthusiasm some of the many opportunities to realise our potential which may be placed before us if we only recognise them and welcome the change.”
